Judy Holcombe
I've always loved to draw and paint, my earliest teacher being an artistic mother. My father was a Naval officer, and we traveled and lived many places. My longtime home is the Northwest but I still love to travel - both are an influence on my art. My home is on the Boise River and "Cottonwoods" is a nearby scene. "Neighbors" was painted on the farm of a friend in Idaho's Camas Prairie. "Morning Coffee" was painted from an early morning walk in Moullins France. I take my camera on my walks, and my best pictures have come from early morning scenes or the technicolor light of early dusk. A favorite subject is cats. I have eleven of them who are willing models and otherwise great help, walking through the palette, sleeping in the paint box etc. As a lifetime people watcher, I especially enjoy portraits, and am available for commission - people, children, and pets. I like pictures that "tell a story".. " Johnny's Favorite Things" was a commissioned portrait of Johnny with his Model A, his dog and his favorite golf hat, on Route 66. My favorite media's are pen & ink, watercolor and oil, but I experiment in them all. I have won awards for landscape, portrait and mixed media paintings, and have displayed my works regionally.
